I am researching Missouri Pacific and Rock Island passenger train operations before 1971, and need listings of the cars in each passenger train to establish patterns of equipment usage. This information was entered for each trip in 4x9 paperbound booklets provided by the railroad. A part of the cover of the book appears in the image.
Since many Mopac train crewmen lived in Argenta, hopefully some of the readers of this website have come across these books in attics or elsewhere. If you have conductor memorandum books that you would like to sell, I am interested in buying and will put the information to good use in compiling this research. I will also scan, or pay for you to have scanned, any of these books which you might have but don't wish to sell.
If you can assist with this research, please email me at

The Argenta Downtown Council is selling all of the spring flowering Azaleas that have been blooming in the pots on Main Street. The Azaleas and associated perennials will be available on this Saturday from 7:00 a.m. till noon at the Argenta Farmer's Market. The sale supports the downtown planting and maintenance programs of the ADC.
The Red Ruffle Azaleas are 7 gallon size plants, about 30” in diameter, and will be on sale for $25.00 each. This Azalea is not in the Encore family of re-bloomers, but it puts on a big show in the spring. The Azaleas should grow to an average size of 4' wide and 4' tall in 3-5 years. They require an acid, well drained soil (just like we have in Argenta) with full to partial sunlight. Afternoon shade is a plus.
For further information or to reserve plants for a Saturday pick up, call Don Chambers, ADC General Manager at 786-2324 Be first to comment this article |

This cute li'l thang is Fern, an 8-month-old miniature Boston Terrier who is being fostered in Argenta by friends of her owner, who bought her recently but found out she can't keep her. Fern is a registered pure-breed and is available for $150. Fern weighs about 15 pounds and that's as big as she's supposed to get. She's currently sharing a household with another dog and two cats and gets along with them well (she wants to play with the cats more than vice versa, but respects their boundaries when they get uppity). She's being crate trained and learning to sit and lie down, and she loves to be walked on a leash. She loves to be picked up and cuddled and to sit on laps. If you're interested in meeting her to see if you'd like to become her new parent(s), please contact Eric Francis at 626-4980 or

Here is a freezer a local Argentan is selling. I have only had it one year and loved it, but need the space it was in now and hope to find it a good home. I paid a little over $200 for it and will take $100. It is in excellent condition. Here is a link to Home Depot (where it was purchased) for the specs.
If you are interested e-mail

We are having a small yard sale this Saturday morning (weather permitting). Here is one of the items I would LOVE to get rid of before I have to drag it outside! (smile)
This one is an antique wooden bed. It is a double. I paid $100 for it, cleaned it up and will take $75 for the headboard, footboard and rails. If you are interested in the bed e-mail
