The North Little Rock School District (NLRSD) has a backlog of well over $150 million in building improvements and has not built a new school building in nearly 40 years. If you listen closely and talk to some school board members you will quietly hear about preliminary plans to propose a property tax increase by the NLRSD to pay for the backlogged school construction and other physical plant needs. The School Board has been slowly preparing itself and the public for a proposed property tax mileage increase vote in the next two to three years.

You may notice something missing from this picture. That's right, the outdoor tables and chairs were stolen from in front of Cafe La Pace at 318 Main Street sometime between 2:00 pm Sunday and 9:00 am Monday. The total loss was about $400. If you noticed someone taking the furniture please go by Cafe La Pace and tell the owner Sam what you saw.

The Battle of the Badges Blood Drive will be Friday June 26th from 7AM till 6PM at the Patrick Henry Hays Senior Center at 401 West Pershing. Please come out and help the NLR Police and Fire Departments defeat the LR Police and Fire Department by donating blood. Last year, supporters of the NLR Police and Fire donated 108 units of blood to LR's 93. If you noticed, the blood drive is starting at 7 to provide officers working the midnight shift an opportunity to participate as well as to provide people the opportunity to donate before they go to work.
If you would like to reserve a time to eliminate a possible waiting period, please email

A short film was being shot late last night in the Melrose Circle area next to Melrose Park. I spoke with one of the producers and the film will be a 30 minute short film with the working title Irene. The film will be shown at film festivals once it is done.
The Melrose area was chosen because of it's night time street lighting and the very low traffic on the back side of the Circle which would limit disturbance to the film crew. Be first to comment this article |

On Monday afternoon the Little Rock Fire Dept responded to a serious house fire at 815 Cypress Street (next to I-30 at the exit ramp to 7th Street). Three engine companies, one truck company and one rescue company fought the fire and saved the structure in oppressive heat. This house is owned by a trust run by Pamela McQuaid and run as a rent house. Perhaps you seen the billboard on the Main Street Bridge....Houses by Pamela Rents

You may have heard what sounds like a weed eater driving down the streets of Argenta last night between 9:00 and 9:30 pm. This is the seasonal sparying the City does to control mosquitos across the City. The sprayer is mounted on the back of a small white City pick up and blows out a fine mist of mosquito spray. Look for the spaying every two weeks or so for the rest of the summer. Comments (3) |

Greg Thompson Fine Art located at 429 Main Street above Ristorante Capeo has been added to the Arts & Leisure Links to the right. Go to the web site, check out all the great art. Don't worry about the wrong adress on the web site for Greg Thompson Fine Art. What with their grand opening in Argenta last week, they haven't had time to update their web site yet.
