From 10:00 am to 5:00 pm today at the Argenta Branch Library at 506 Main Street you can Explore Your Wild Side with the library staff and nature activities. Go get some nature and some fun times too with your kids.
Channel 7 is going to be filming the segment, Restaurant of the Week, in Reno's during lunch on Wednesday, July 1st. They want to interview customers and patrons. Please come out to Reno's and show your support for one our great local bars and restaurants. Reno's hopes everyone will come down and support them. Also, you might get to be on tv! I think they will start filming around 11:30.
Please join the Argenta Downtown Council and Certified Arkansas Farmers Market as they announce the first annual Argenta Foodie Festival held Saturday, July 4th, from 9am – 2pm. They will be holding a kickoff press conference at 10 am, Wednesday (July 1st, 2009) downstairs at North Little Rock City Hall. The press conference will feature North Little Rock Mayor Patrick Hays, John Gaudin of the Argenta Downtown Council and Executive Chef Lee Richardson of Ashley’s Restaurant. They will be talking about the new festival and the importance of developing partnerships between local chefs, restaurants and Arkansas farmers and its impact on the community.

Chef Jason is making ice-cold fruit sorbets using what he finds tomorrow at the Argenta Farmer's Market. He's looking for peaches, melons, blueberries, and more. No doubt North Little Rock has a strong mayoral form of government and in many cases this works well for the City. Without a strong mayor it is doubtful North Little Rock would have Alltel Arena, Dickey-Stephens Ballpark, free garbage pick up, a senior citizen's center or numerous other things. However, a strong mayoral form of government also tends to concentrate power in the Mayor's office which can be bad if you happen to be on the Mayor's wrong side or can't catch his attention. It also means that much of the city's business has to go through the Mayor's office, which can result in delays and inaction due to the limited number of hours in a day the Mayor has. While I would not trade a strong mayoral form of government for the form of city government on the south side of the river, I would argue that a better balance can be achieved between all our elected leaders in the City.
