According to local sources Cafe La Pace has closed. The restaurant business is tough downtown in the Winter and downtown is still struggling to have enough residential and daytime office workers to support many restaurants
Great Food and Atmoshere Written by robishaw, on 19-11-2009 07:14 Just moved into area from Austin and this was a great place to eat and a very friendly place, if this is correct info this is very sad. I hope the info is WRONG! |
Not surprised at all Written by fridaymom, on 19-11-2009 09:43 I tried Cafe La Pace twice when it first opened. On the first visit they didn't even have menus yet - he had to tell you what they offered (soup & sandwich were merely 'adequate'). I would think a cheap blackboard could have solved the menu problem. Second visit - they weren't open when they were supposed to be. When they supposedly started serving breakfast, we go down one Saturday morning, but - guess what - they are not open. Guess what? We never went back. In the last 2 weeks I have been to dinner at Riverfront Steakhouse, Sonny Williams, Bonefish Grill and The Faded Rose. There visits were all on weeknights - no weekends. You literally could not get in the door at any of these restaurants - but hey - the restaurant business is 'tough' and we are 'teetering on the edge of the next Great Depression'. It certainly hasn't stopped people from going out to eat! If you give people the kind of place they want to go to, be open when you say you are going to, serve GOOD food at a reasonable price, and give decent service - people will frequent your establishment whether it's 'winter' or not. Bring back the Argenta Star Cafe!!!! |
Dammit! Written by Eric Francis, on 19-11-2009 09:59 Add my voice to those of the mourners - especially since I can't afford places like expensive steakhouses and seafood places (whose clientele are less affected by the current economic downturn than us working shills, apparently). Sam was a great host, the food was good, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Argenta needs an affordable lunch spot (or coffee shop) like this, but obviously we have to reciprocate as patrons. I sure could've eaten more often at LaPace. I hope it has a worthy successor, and I'll try harder to do my part. |
Oh no! Written by britbratty, on 19-11-2009 10:01 I loved Cafe La Pace and hate to hear it. |
Written by amymelisa, on 19-11-2009 10:31 The food was cheap and delicious, especially the salads. Good luck to Sam. |
This can't be right Written by Starr, on 19-11-2009 15:04 I talked to Sam Saturday. I showed up for dinner and they were closed. I saw him later at Cregeen's and he said he was redoing the bar, apologized profused and promised to take care of me the next time. He made no mention of closing for good. Surely he would've known Saturday if he was going to be closing Wednesday right? At least I hope this is the case. They had some of the best salads I've ever had. =( |
Written by ctyankee, on 19-11-2009 16:28 Do you think that if they only had a 40 sq ft double-sided LED changeable copy flashing-scrolling-spinning-whirling sign hanging out front they might have been able to keep the doors open? |
advertising Written by WiilieB, on 23-11-2009 01:06 you simply cannot rely on foot traffic, now or ever, here or anywhere to keep your business afloat. what is needed is A D V E R T I S I N G. Of course good service and products that people come back for are critical too : ) |
