This is what Argenta is about.
If you knew that your purchases at a locally-owned store could keep that store in business during this recession, would you shop there more frequently? That's the idea behind a new plan launched this week on the Web to help strengthen our local economies. It's called "The 3/50 Project" and it asks you to identify three independently-owned stores that you would hate to lose.Click here for a link to the Project 3 50 web site

The creator of the idea hopes to convince consumers that by spending $50 per month at those three stores it will make a critical difference for their ability to remain a vibrant part of the local economy. The 3/50 Project aims to support the local brick and mortar businesses. Pick 3, spend $50. Save the local economy. It boils down to thinking about what 3 stores or 3 businesses that are locally-owned you would hate to see disappear. That means from the corner restaurant, gallery or store. These are the stores that are the heart and soul of a local economy. However, the reality is that when people curtail their spending in times of recession, these are the businesses hit the hardest.
For every $100 spent at a locally owned store, $68 stays local. That compares to $43 from a "big box" or chain store purchase. As for online purchases, those return nothing to the local economy not even taxes.
my vote Written by FLavaMalo, on 27-06-2009 09:55 I would have to say, I'd support Starving Artist & would love to support a grocery store but am beginning to think we will never get one. |
