Semis on neighborhood streets PDF Print E-mail

This morning, a tractor-trailer rig drove up Willow street and past my house on its way, I assume, to the industrial businesses by the railyard to the west of the 700 block of Willow. I was pretty sure that sort of vehicle isn't allowed on neighborhood streets, so I wrote someone who I suspect would be in the know. He was, and here's the response:

ABSOLUTELY NOT ! ! !

They are usually (99%) going to the Paper Recycler on w 8th StreetThey don’t give a ****!!

These are the same people whose trucks (independent trucking cos.) plowed the flower bed in front of City Hall and other beds on Main Street .

If you see them on Willow , get the trucking company name and trailer number and call the non emergency police number.

Send the same information to the Mayor’s office and City Attorney’s office so it can be logged for future prosecution/reference as a nuisance.

BIG signs on Willow indicate NO TRUCKS.

Efforts are underway to send all truck traffic (except local delivery)around downtown via Riverfront Drive (after September 29th) to Pike Avenue .

So there you go, folks: If you see a semi tooling up your neighborhood street, do what I plan to do: Take notes, if possible take pictures, and report it to the police, council and city attorney, asking them to do something about enforcement and, more importantly, establishing and enforcing an alternate route.

You mean this is NOT normal?

I say that with a bit of tongue-in-cheek. We've been giving these guys directions for years. Like everyone else, they pull up at the Fire Station because we know where everything is.

And you're correct, they're usually going to the Recyke place over on W 8th, which "doglegs" south one-half block at Willow before it begins the 400 addresses.

Just out of curioiusity: if the No Tractor Trailer thing applies, is it everywhere in the area? Will the paper recyke business go out of business?
