A closing Circle - UPDATE 2 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Eric Francis

The Circle will be closing by the end of the month in Argenta and is relocating to the River Market, according to a sign posted on the windows at 318 Main St. and an e-mail I got from Lacey Kelley, president of The Circle Inc. Lacy also informs me that the number on the sign is her number, and no longer the ad agency I'd reported in the earlier update (Kelley's old business).

In the meantime, they're still cooking food and serving beer on Main Street until the relocaiton takes place. More details as I get them!

As you can see, the place is up for sale lock, stock and barrel. This is the third eatery to close in this location since October of 2006 -- first was Argenta Coffee Co. (which I still miss terribly), followed by Fat Boys Grill, and now The Circle. While we have other successful restaurants along Main Street, this spot seems to have a problem. Maybe it's the approach that's been taken -- all three of the ones mentioned were more lunch spots than dinner spots, the way I see it, though I spent plenty of evenings at Coffee Co. for the live music and good company. I happen to think that Argenta really needs a good hang-out spot that is more of a coffeeshop/bakery/sandwich joint, but I'm beginning to wonder if the economics of such a place simply won't work on Main Street yet. Maybe it's a matter of having the "critical mass" of population that planners and developers have so long clamored for. Maybe it's the fact this storefront has one really cramped, uncomfortable, and nearly inaccessible bathroom. I don't know. But if you think you've got the solution and are willing to risk $6,000 to buy the joint out, call the number above.

I'm still waiting for the Faded Rose to come to this side of the river, what's the status on that?

From the Demo-Gaz this past weekend. The Faded Rose is still planning to inhabit Main Street. They have plans before one of the 1,000's of boards/commissions in Argenta seeking approval. Hurry up and wait.
