North Little Rock FOP and Fire Union Endorse Bubba Lloyd

R.C. Cox and Andrew Miles made the announcement at the Levy Improvement movement meeting at North Heights recreation center. Several candidates were scheduled to speak Thursday night and each were given a set time to introduce themselves to the group who have been gathering monthly for about the past year. The first to take the floor was Phil Wyrick who is running for Pulaski County Judge. He told of how if elected he would correct the problems with the jail that has been so troublesome to us all in the past several years. He went on to describe ow he would do this by setting priorities and stop the frivolous spending on pet projects until the basic needs were met.

Walter "Bubba" Lloyds message was similar, but included that he would not be sitting in Hotel lobbies or resorts every three weeks even after the basic needs of the city were provided . He insisted that if elected he would not close a fire station but would build and staff another one on the east side and then look to building and staffing another one on the north side in the newly annexed areas around Kellogg acres. He says he will do this by straightening out the priorities of the city and end all spending on pet projects and make the city administration accountable to the people of the city.

Mr Lloyd then asked that he give a little time to R.C. Cox that wanted to talk to the group. Mr. Cox then took the floor and told the group that The FOP and the Fire Union had taken votes this week. And that they stood united with the retired firemen and Police to stand behind and endorse Walter "Bubba" Lloyd for Mayor of this great city. Alan Tetkoski representative of the fire union joined Cox and Andrew Miles at the front of the room as they stood together with Bubba Lloyd.

Debt of gratitude

I for one would like to thank the police and fire unions for helping me make my decision of who not to vote for.

Union endorsements are the kiss of death. Way to go, fellas!
2nd Fire Station a little ambitious
Written by Scottc, on 29-08-2008 10:50
Maybe I'm wrong, but a plan to built two fire stations--particularly a 2nd new station in Kellogg acres seems a but much. There is already an existing fire station barely a mile away from the heart of Kellogg acres.

I'm all for new leadership, and feel it's time to be more frugal with city revenues.
Fire Stations

The Runyan Acres Fire Station is a volunteer station and is not part of NLR. If those two new developments are to have fire protection, it needs to be by a fully staffed full time station, not a volunteer station that is not part of the city.
doubts

I doubt Bubba would try to build two firestations at one time. And with cuts in frivolous spending it could be done in four years. no problem. There is money in the city, just hidden from view, or earmarked for "other" things to come.
A Reasonable Expectation?

I am concerned that a change in mayoral leadership may frighten away investors here in Argenta; that the downtown development will come to a grinding halt in these challenging times. After all, it is said that there is nothing so shy as $1 million. For us, this would be a terrible blow to our quality of life and the value of our property.
Could this blog support a town hall type debate of the candidates on the issues with an absence of malice? Could we, the people, participate, also without malice? I can take constructive criticism, but bad-mouthing just worries me and upsets my stomach for it's destructive lack of substance.
An intelligent debate of issues of concern to the office of mayor would clarify my expectations for future gains in both quality of life and value of property.
I care most about Argenta. I will vote for the person that I believe will promote Argenta, a rising value of our property and an ever improving quality of life.
