Certified Arkansas Farmers’ Market Report #7 From: Jody Hardin, Market Manager
Friday, August 15, 2008
Good Morning Locavore’s,
Here is a quick reminder of happenings for CAFM in Argenta.
We hope to have some farmer’s back from vacation, and the usual group of small farmer’s this weekend with more summer veggies and fruits.
We expect to have a big batch of grass fed eggs early in the morning at the Foodshed Farm booth. The chickens love this cooler weather and we are getting a bumper harvest all week.
The Mars table grapes are getting sweeter and sweeter as the days go by. This is the one seasonal treat that everyone should sample, and find a way to incorporate into your late summer seasonal diet. Have you ever tried them frozen, with some powdered sugar sprinkled over the top?
Peaches are in limited supply, if not completely gone. I expect to see a few, but this one you must come early to find. The cucumbers at the Russian farmer (Val) booth have been good, along with his late summer squash. Some butternut is coming into the market from Cedar Rock Acres, along with more CRA select tomatoes.
The Beefalo Woman is bringing a big load of beefalo burger, steaks, roasts, and various organ parts(oxtail, liver, heart). She will also have some fresh frozen bones, as well as our grass fed eggs at the Foodshed Farm booth.
Hardin Farms will have more purple hull peas, okra, and several varieties of watermelons. This is the time of year to induldge the family in a big watermelon, chilled to perfection on ice. The big, traditional, seeded melons have been very sweet and the price has come down to season lows. Ask me to pick one out for you!
Mr. Hill, of Hills Nursery in Perryville, will have some more green “Loda” apples. They look pretty bad, but the taste is great for baking pies and dehydrating.
Blind Boy White, with his blues guitar and harp, will play mid morning. Please schedule your visit to overlap with this original local blues master. Start your Saturday out right!
Tell you friends and family, and meet me at the Farmers’ Market in Argenta!!!
Thanks again for your kind support,
