I'd like to hear if anyone else thinks this is a problem. Heading down Willow Street toward Broadway on Saturday afternoon, I noticed that the 300 block of Willow had cars parked up and down both sides of it. While on that block, I encountered another vehicle coming from the other direction, and it was an awfully tight fit. Made me wonder if there really was enough room on that block for parking on both sides AND two-way traffic. Certainly not for two full-sized SUVs; it was a pretty close squeeze with a Saturn and a Suburban on Saturday. So, has anyone else noticed blocks where on-street parking during ball games makes for problems navigating our neighborhood streets? And has anyone experienced problems with ball fans parking in the restricted areas? Did you try to get the parking rules enforced, and what was the result? I'd like to hear what the experience has been for other Argenta denizens.
Whattaboutda Squeeze on MAIN St? Written by PharaohTet, on 14-07-2008 16:02 In a similar vein: Me and the Central Fire Boyz were rolling down Main St to a fire alarm last Saturday morning. We ran head on into an orange cone barricade at the Farmer's Market! OK, not a barricade, but the cones were posted along the dividing line in the street for some odd reason; at first I thought it was to keep southbound traffic from trying to turn into the Market area, but that can't be since the Main St entrances are barricaded. Anyway, our apparatus's can't make it through on the southbound lane without either hitting cones or cars parked along the curb. This is really no big deal to us, as long as everyone realizes we're going to have to run over the cones to get through. We'll try to hit them center on to minimize the damage (and also to keep from rolling a cone up in the dual wheels in back). We'll also try to avoid coming down Main if possible, but sometimes, it's unavoidable. Sorry, folks... |
thanks, PharoahTet Written by Eric Francis, on 14-07-2008 16:14 I passed the word on to the organizer of the farmers market. If I get a response, I'll post it here. |
Restricted Parking Not Enforced Written by bushbaby, on 16-07-2008 09:24 I, too, live on Willow. I asked a NLR policeman one day if they give tickets or anything to the cars who park illegally during games. He told me the Chief won't let them issue citations. So my question is, "If there is no punishment for parking illegally, what's the point of registering our cars?" |
Enforce it yourself Written by reader, on 16-07-2008 10:39 Do what Bob Valentine does. Go to Auto-Zone and buy a few Orange cones and "Manage the spaces" in front of your own residence... ...OR... Do what they do around other ballparks around the country. Get yourself some cans of Silly-string and spray it all over their windshields so they can't see to drive and will have to wipe it off with their hands ( Yuck! ) before they can get home. The word will get around fast and people will begin to be more careful where they park on the residential streets. |
String! String! String! Written by I M Strange, on 16-07-2008 17:10 I love the silly string idea. It was much better than the Pepper Spray suggestion I made earlier. I think I'll park over there and get my SUV "Strung Up"!!! |
