Why a Riverfront RV Park? PDF Print E-mail

Many people have been wondering why the Mayor is pushing an RV Park down along the River.  There have been very few people who think the RV Park is a good idea along the River.  So why?  Last October, the Mayor met with members of the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA).  At that time certain committments were made to the FMCA if they would hold a regional rally in NLR.  Those committments included a specific number of well equipped RV spaces for the officers and committee members of the FMCA who will be corrdinating the regional rally.  Hence the urgent need for the RV Park before the rally ths Fall. This was reported in Dogtown Wire recently.

But there is even something bigger going on here.  THE FMCA and Mayor have talked about even larger rallies and the need for more space.  Currently the FMCA has many regional and national rallies in Georgia outside Atlanta where a large RV Park exists in coordination with a lage fairground.  This provides year round activities for the faigrounds.  In addition, Central Arkansas lacks good space for events like the gun and knife shows, flea markets etc.  And NLR has the Deluxe Video building off I440 sitting empty.  Now remember a few months ago, when it leaked out that NLR was talking with the State Fairgrounds people about moving the State Fairgrounds from Roosevelt to out near the I440 corridor near Deluxe Video?  You can bet, the Mayor is likely looking at that and courting the FMCA and keeping them happy and committed to Central Arkansas so that they can be considerd in part of the revenue stream to fund the new fairgrounds.

Big Plans, Big Money and the Riverfront RV Park is likely jsut the beginning.

We got a spot

Tell the Mayor we have a spot! Its close to Burns Park, convenient to downtown, there is already pavement. The building adjacent could be used for a venue of what ever they would like, on site security (substation)...its our old Walmart! Also we could do the gun shows here too...call them people up...whats their number I will call them. We need the economic splurge!

While we are on this subject, why is there not any nice hotels near Burns Park. All these money making soccer tournaments, baseball tournaments etc...and people have to stay in Little Rock? This is just a shame. Why doesnt NLR look for some developers in this area? McArthur could grow then. Our lovely park, the best natural resource that NLR has to offer and there is no where for people to stay. Look at all the family reunions that we have missed out on revenue. I dont get it. Do I need to try to call some people and beg them to come to NLR and start a business. What deals can I offer them?
Wonder Why?

Well, lets see...

Every time the Mayor or a "developer" proposes something, everyone in NLR gets up in arms about "wasting taxpayer money" and "developers getting rich".

Driven out Financial Center Parkway in South Argenta lately? "Developers" are putting in new shopping, new theaters and new dining and both the "developers" AND the city are getting richer. It didn't take them FOUR YEARS to get a project off the ground (like projects that have been fought over here...)

Before a hotel goes in, there has to be entertainment and shopping close by to keep the guests happy.
Wasting Taxpayer money

I wouldnt be up in arms...maybe if a hotel was built the other businesses would come. There is nothing there right now. I would hope that the saying "build it and they will come" would be exactly what would happen.

I dont think people here in Levy have ever fought economic developement.

Have you driven out Maumelle blvd lately? Talk about developement. And guess what? thats in ward 3. North Shore bussiness park? ward 3. Also a huge booming area of industry. See the write up about Garver engineers coming in out there, among a growing number of other industries and bussinesses, you know out by Cooks landing and the Dam?. Its a BIG thing and it happening in ward 3. Not all Economic developement is happening downtown, as a matter of fact, ward 3 is the fastest growing area in the city of NLR right now. New bussinesses are popping up all over, Where? ward 3. The people up in arms about wasting money are the ones who have researched and know what the money is being wasted on. Its not the developers that come in and just build a bussiness, its the one that come in with their hands out to the city for financial help. If you can't afford to develope a bussiness then you should be working for someone else who can. Not trying to get the city to subsidize your idea. Thats wasting tax payer money.
One moe thing....

John Parker said in City Council theat the Burns Park RV park could be brought up to FMCA standards for $20,000.00 and a few minutes later voted to approve the $200,000.00 loan to build this one. He could have fought a little harder to get it in Burns Park and Ward 3.
