The Argenta Machine Written by Pygface, on 28-05-2008 22:33 Count me in the minority of thinking this is the best idea. There are a number of reasons for that, not the least of which is that the same developers names are the ones that keep popping up in Argenta over & over again. Now, you can & surely will, argue that anyone could have forked over the money to buy said property. But forgive my cynicism in thinking that developers have an inside track with Mayor Wetlands McTIF. You can't sell me the 'green' argument when we all know that the next step is to tear down the current City Service building - eyesore that it is. When you tear stuff down, you can't call what you do 'green'. And in the neighborhood/urban improvement picture, government is a good anchor, but there can be too much of a good thing. Those buildings will close at 5 creating a real vacuum that will fail the walking test - meaning you'd have to walk through a 'closed' series of buildings after 5 to get to the next 'open' store/pub that is inevitable. Again, the Mayor/City is too cozy with V3 & its tendrils. For Argenta to truly blossom, there needs to be a greater diversity of ownership; not the machine that currently exists. For them to work a land swap (which, you're right, seems looming) would stink worse than month old Gouda left out to rot. |
