This from the Dem/Gaz on Saturday in an brief article by that crack ace NLT reporter Jake Sandlin Dickey-Stephens clock tower done The Dickey-Stephens Park tower now has clocks facing all directions. Three clocks have been added to the tower that had only one clock in place for the park’s inaugural baseball season this year. Workers completed installation Thursday afternoon. The lack of the three clock faces has been a sore spot for Mayor Patrick Hays, who spearheaded the city’s effort to build the $40.4 million stadium. The tower is above the baseball stadium’s main entrance next to the Broadway Bridge. The extra $117,000 cost to add the clocks remains in dispute, Hays said, because it’s never been clear whether the city gave the Dallas-based HKS Inc. design firm approval to leave out three of the clocks. Hays has said he always expected the tower to contain four. It looks like the three new faces aren't working yet. Just one obvious question though. So who paid for the $117,000 extra cost to put in the clock faces now? Did the design frim pay for them pending the outcome of the dispute? Or did the City pay the $117,000 now and is resolving the dispute with the designer later. If the City paid the $117,000 how can the clock tower faces be justified as a necessary immediate cost, with an electricity crisis? Mayoir Hays gives the Council biweekly updates on how much money the hydro plant is generating to keep citizens and the Council informed. So why not updates on the expenses?
Time Warp Written by PharaohTet, on 15-10-2007 11:29 Will all three clocks show the same time? I notice two of them don't in the photo. :) |
