This is the intersection of West 7th & Willow Streets in Argenta. Over the last three months there have been at least three serious wrecks here. At least one ended up in the corner owner's front yard. The combination of high traffic counts, blind curve, truck traffic in and out of Melrose on 7th, all seem to make this one heck of a dangerous intersection. Speed bumps are oout of the question due to the traffic, a light is probably not a good idea on the blind curve. Any one out there an amateur traffic engineer with a good idea? Have you had or seen a near miss here?
Selfish Intentions... Written by Argenitals, on 27-07-2007 17:03 I haven't seen any close wrecks or anything, but it's damn near impossible to cross the street when I walk my dog in the morning. Maybe one of those blinking pedestrian lights? Not only could I be able to cross the street, but it might remind people to slow down and be cautious. |
Slow down? Written by dumblonde, on 27-07-2007 17:29 If they were actually paying attention besides talking on their cell phone the driver might just speed up to see how close they'd come to hitting you or your dog. Folks who drive south on Main then make a right turn onto W 7th do not stop for pedestrians in the cross walk, even when the pedestrian has the right of way. Try & run over me before my coffee in the morning & I'll beat someone's ass. That curve is dangerous in a vehicle even. One second you're clear enough both ways to cross or turn onto W 7th & then wham, bam, thank you mam you're knocked around or over. The traffic dept along with city officials need to do something about this intersection before someone gets killed. |
why not speed bumps? Written by son of a milkman, on 27-07-2007 19:35 why not? we need something physical to cause a reaction substantial enough, not just some sign or warning. I live on that corner and have received the property damages three times. we're batting 1.000 here. Who says we can't (I should say the city here) do something to not only slow the traffic down, but also reduce it during rush hours and other times. Cos' if it is clear, folks are probably averaging 35-40 mph or better. I think the CAT buses roar thru regularly in the evening at those speeds as they are heading back to the barn. Only if I am out on the street cutting the grass do people slow down. I try to stand out there so that drivers realize that real people live here. I guess I had a little bit of history with this subject. Slow them down and reduce the traffic. why can't people use Main and Maple and Broadway more. Oh, if only they had not made 7th a through street. Alright, I'm done for now. |
