As requested I am posting pictures of the traffic control box art as each is done. This one is on the southwest corner of Locust and Broadway Streets. I will post pictures of the art on each box as it is completed. This box is signed by Abby Carman. I would direct you to the Main Street Argenta web site but there is nothing there on the artists or their art. Hopefully a reader will post a comment here with more information on Abby and her art and the thought behind this piece. These artists have donated their work and they should be promoted. This is the north side of the box. And this is the south side of the box. So what do you think? Love it....Leave it...or it's ok?
In my opinion, Written by sickandtired, on 10-07-2007 19:28 This one is much nicer, it is more art, than... religion. I like it. |
Well... Written by Whos On First, on 10-07-2007 21:26 I wouldn't hang it in my Living Room. It would stick out from the wall way too much. |
It's Okay Written by dumblonde, on 10-07-2007 22:40 This is busy. A little too busy I think. The art, which I consider it a piece of art, goes from one subject to another not allowing it to be uniform in theme. |
Written by chefmabell, on 10-07-2007 23:35 I guess I don't like white walls, so even if I don't like the art I can appreciate the change. Love the idea and can't wait to see more. |
Inconsisten Written by Argenitals, on 11-07-2007 10:19 I agree with Dumbblonde. I liked the other one better. This one has two much going on and there is no flow in different paintings. I see what they were going for with the mixed artforms, but I think there is so much going on it just looks like a blurr when you drive by. At least with the other one the subject was clear. Thanks for putting more pictures up, Scott! |
still want to see more. Written by Mr. Anthropy, on 11-07-2007 11:38 I like this one better, not by leaps and bounds or anything. It seems more vibrant. I like how the artist used the 'wrap around' effect, instead of settling for a flat 'framed' approach. Takes advantage of the medium, and is more challenging, which is nice to see. I wonder if bright orange is a prerequisite for these things? |
Love it! Written by VFranks, on 11-07-2007 14:39 I think the art work is a great idea. I don't have any problem with depicting religious themes. Artists will happily invoke "artistic freedom" when using public funds to attack religion (i.e. Mapplethorp's "Piss Christ" was done with and NEA grant). I would imagine the same artistic freedom applies when artists endorse religion. Anyway, the art really adds character to the neighborhood and I hope to see more of it. |
Loves it.... Written by Argenitals, on 11-07-2007 22:02 Saw the lady who painted the first electrical box painting another one tonight... I stopped to thank her. Thank god we have people within our community who care enough to dedicate their time and talent to better the community. |
Shortage of artists? Written by Mr. Anthropy, on 12-07-2007 11:21 Another one? Regardless of opinion on the work itself, there has to be more artists that want to contribute. Spread it out a little, geez. Where is diversity when you need it. |
