Without much fanfare the NLR Police Dept. has developed a traffic control plan to quickly get all the cars out of the Argenta and Riverfront area.  This plan closes both the southbound lanes of the Main Street Viaduct (bridge over the railroad tracks) after an event, to facilitate outbound traffic particulary at the 7th & 8th Street intersections.  According to Capt. Davis with the NLR Police Dept. the plan works very well and will likely only be used after the fireworks during Riverfest and on the 4th of July.  This plan will not be used for events at Alltel or Dickey Stephens. 

The viaduct detour was pointed out by a loyal reader who was trying to get back into Argenta after the fireworks and had to detour over to Pike to get home to Argenta.  Why would anyone ever want to leave Argenta, except to grocery shop (people are working on that)?.  So in the future keep the Main Street Viaduct detour in mind and use I-30 and the Broadway Street exit to get back to Argenta within a couple of hours after the Riverfest and 4th of July fireworks.
